Vesak Poya  Day

*Vesak Poya* is the most important full moon day for Buddhists. It marks three major events in the life of the Buddha: his birth, enlightenment, and passing away (Parinirvana).

Vesak is celebrated on the full moon day in May. On this day, Buddhists visit temples, observe religious practices, and meditate. They also engage in acts of generosity, such as offering food and drinks to others through “dansal” (free food stalls).

During Vesak, houses and streets are decorated with lanterns, lights, and beautiful pandals. These decorations often show stories from the Buddha’s life and teachings.

Vesak is a special day that encourages kindness, peace, and generosity among people.
